Musical Baby

I work at O.C. Tanner (they make jewelry and recognition awards for several companies) and they have retail stores all over the U.S. They also have, in the same business suite that I'm working in, a 'Factory Outlet Store' and a 'Bargain Outlet Store' that usually have ridiculously overpriced products like an opened Playstation 2 for $200 (right now it's $100 new at Wal-Mart) and a 30GB iPod 'Photo' for $500 that came out 3 years ago and is now worth about $80, if that. In the 'Bargain' store they have some great things I've seen...like a GE Cordless phone and dock, without the phone. I also saw today a workout trampoline for $30. When I checked the tag, it said 'all legs missing'. A trampoline with no legs?! Just what I've been looking for! But anyway, enough bitchin'! The point is I usually hate their stores but today I found an amazing deal. :O

I purchased a JVC MXKC38 shelf stereo system to put in our living room because Holly told me last night we need to get a CD player to play some lullaby CDs for the baby. It has a CD player, radio, iPod dock, etc. Online the price was at least $130, I got it for $73 because it was 50% off and labeled "scratches." When I got home and opened it, there were absolutely no scratches at all. Yay!

So anyway, the point of this post, is I just hooked it up and put my iPod on the dock to test her out. I put it on shuffle and some Tom Petty (my favorite) came on, 'Mary Jane's Last Dance'. I was sitting there, loving it, when I looked over and the baby was totally jammin' out to it, bouncing around and smiling like crazy. It was the cutest dad-gummed thing I've ever seen! I tried to get a video to put on here but he wouldn't cooperate :(

I like to think he's musically gifted since my entire family is and maybe he'll play some instruments and whatnot, but deep down I know pretty much every kid ever loves music. Maybe they don't all love Tom Petty, though. I won't force it, but I'll be hoping. Anyway, it was awesome! He sends his love!

Sundee

Today's Sundee as my folks from the south would call it. I'm currently working from home, on a use case for work. The deadline is tomorrow, so what choice do I have, right? The past week has been crazy with work and planning for Trent's birthday next week and all the celebrity deaths. I'd just like to say that the Michael Jackson death, for me, was a shock. I've always been a big Michael Jackson fan, growing up with his music, and despite all his legal issues I still consider him one of my favorite artists and definitely one of the most influential artists ever. I turned on CNN on Tuesday and saw the headline 'Michael Jackson Rushed to Hospital Following Cardiac Arrest' or something along those lines. I was glued to the tv until he was officially pronounced dead a few hours later. His death was untimely and honestly tragic, for his family, children, and fans. I'm not all crazy or crying or anything, but I'm very sad about it and for his family.

So anyway, Trent turns one year old in less than one week! It's exciting...I can't believe it. It seems like yesterday when we brought him home from the hospital. Now he's tall and heavy and pulling my hair at will. It's been an amazing experience. He's getting to where he's a little bit spoiled. If he's playing with something, anything, and one of us takes it away he freaks out and yells about it. We've been telling him 'No' lately but to no avail. This is harder than I thought. Lately he's been into being destructive. He rips all the movies from under the entertainment center, and his favorite game is knocking everything off the end tables. Holly and I like to sit in the living room and have dinner whilst watching some good ol' Office or 30 Rock. The baby ventures on over toward dad's side unnoticed and starts to just pull everything off the table. It sucks. It also creates a lot of unnecessary messes. When I pull him away, he cries for a while. I never thought a kid could be spoiled at one year old, but I was wrong. Anyway, his party is next week and we're excite! A lot of last-minute planning and stuff so I hope it goes well. If it doesn't, he won't remember, so who cares? Holly does. And she would punch me in the crotch if she heard me say that. Anyway, I'm excited my little guy is turning one. :)

Father's Day :)

My wife is amazing and gave me a great father's day. For the past few months I've been craving some biscuits and gravy like the goodness I had back in Arkansas. I've had some on occasion but it all just reminds me of the good stuff. Knowing this, she took me to Cracker Barrel on Sunday morning for some biscuits 'n gravy and bacon. It was amazing. Then she gave me this book, Mondo Utah. It's probably one of the funniest books I've ever read. Then an Amazon gift certificate (which I already used on games. I'm such a dork) and a gift certificate to play some golf at Mountain View golf course. Anyway, it's 'back to the grind' as Justin would say and I am workin' workin'. Excited for 4th of July weekend.

Workin' from Home!

Today I'm working from home, which is amazing. I'm so much more productive at home. Plus I can I just look around the corner and see that baby playin' around and whatnot. It's the best...since my work knows my diagnosis of 'swine flu' they're requiring me (and others that were given the same diagnosis) to bring in a note from our doctors saying we're not contagious and are ok to return to the office. It's Thursday and I've been out all week. I don't want to go in on Friday just to start the weekend, so I think I may just delay getting that note :)

Anyway, Holly and I are about to hit up the Wal-Mart for some groceries. I'm kinda weary about it since after this whole influenza I look like a homeless man:

but I think we'll manage. I also don't think I ever really had the swine flu and that my doctor was a little dense.

Sweet Tea

Last night Holly Malcom purchased some sweet tea for me from McDonald's. It's only $1 for a large one. Everyone should try it. It's amazing...my fever has gone down from 102.6 to 99.2, so I guess now I don't have a fever. That's kickin' wing.

Influenza

This morning was a rough one. I struggled out of bed and into the shower, got dressed and drove to work. I'd been sick all weekend with some crazy sore throat/headache thing, but I figured it would go away soon because I took DayQuil a couple hours before. I don't know why...never once have I taken DayQuil and felt better. It's always the NyQuil, ya know? You (by 'you' I mean me) drink half the bottle then pass out on the floor and wake up the next day feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. I couldn't do that on a worknight.

Anyway
, I didn't feel well so I went to see a doctor. Oh man, was she a winner. She was older, probably late 40's, glasses and dyed hair in this weird blonde/brown/red trifecta of ugliness. She was also borderline retarded. Let's call her Helen. The nurse that checked on me before Helen entered had gathered that I had either the flu or strep. I was thrilled to learn I had the influenza. Then Helen told me what my prescription would be and started talking about the H1N1 (aka swine flu) and saying that I may have it. Then she said I may not and they don't test for it. Then she gave a puzzled look and started scribbling on her notepad. I asked her straight, "Do I actually have swine flu?" to which she replied "Sure." Very comforting.

Anyway, it looks like I should be over whichever form of the flu I have in a few days. It sucks being sick because I feel like crap, obviously, and I've been sweating like a whore in church (or a bicyclist on a hot summer's day for the light-hearted) for no reason. I'm also wearing a mask everywhere to keep from getting the wife and kiddo sick. At least I'm not sicker than I am and have seen the reports on KSL of deaths due to the swine flu in Salt Lake County. I'm lucky and thankful that's not me.

Other than that things are going excellent for this Andrew. I get my biannual bonus this week which is kick-ass. This weekend is Father's Day so that's exciting. Arkansas is in the College World Series and plays this Saturday. Also, the new Jonas Brothers album drops tomorrow. This week rocks my pants.
